Configuring the Geotab Video Rules

Configuring the Geotab Video Rules

Video Events are the video footage uploaded to the cloud once an event occurs. The video footage captures the 5 seconds before and 5 seconds after the event and is saved in the cloud for 30 days. The Surfsight Add-In enables you to configure the Video Events based on the 'Surfsight Video Rules' as well as the 'Geotab Exception and Custom Rules'. This allows you to convert any ‘Geotab Exception and Custom Rules’ set into ‘Video Events’.

To configure the Geotab Video Rules follow these steps:

1.       Create ‘View Only API’ Security Clearance:

1.       Navigate to the ‘Administration’ tab on the left menu bar.

2.       Click ‘Users’ in the sub-menu.

3.       Click the ‘Clearances’ tab at the top bar.

4.       In the ‘Security Clearances’ page, scroll down and click on the ‘View Only’.

5.       On the ‘Security Clearance Edit’ page, click the ‘Add Sub-Clearance’ tab at the top bar.

6.       Enter a new name of the new sub-clearance: View Only API.

7.       Locate ‘Access to feature’ and then scroll down to ‘Edit notification template’.

8.       Check the ‘Edit notification template’.

9.       Click the ‘Save’ button at the top of the page.

2.     Create a New User with a ‘ViewOnly API’ Security Clearance

1.       Go to the ‘Administration’ tab on the left menu bar.

2.       Click on ‘Users’ in the sub-menu.

3.       Click on the ‘Add’ tab at the top bar.

4.       On the ‘Add User’ page, create a new user.

5.       Enter the Email Address and the First Name.

6.       Click ‘NO’ on the ‘Force password change on next login’.

7.       Enter a password.

8.       Scroll down and change the ‘Security Clearance’ drop-down menu to ‘View Only API’.

9.       Click ‘Save’ at the top of the page.

3.       Set the Polling or Webhook Event Management

We need to determine the way the Surfsight Add-In will communicate with the Geotab Cloud to share information and data, detect changes and events. The Surfsight Add-In can communicate in two ways:

·       Polling: determines that the Surfsight Add-In sends a request for new events to the Geotab Cloud at a predetermined frequency.

·       Webhook: determines that whenever a new event occurs, the Geotab Cloud posts the event data to the Surfsight Add-In, updating it in real-time

1.       Go to the 'Surfsight Add-In' menu on the left menu bar.

2.       Click on the ‘Vehicles’ tab on the menu.

3.       On the ‘Vehicles’ page, click the ‘Update Settings’ tab at the top of the page.

4.       Select the ‘Polling’ or ‘Webhook’ in the drop-down menu.

Note: We recommend setting the event management to ‘Polling’.

5.       Enter the Username and Password. Use the username and password of the new user you have just created and that is associated with the ‘View Only API Security Clearance’.

4.    Turn the Geotab Exceptions and Custom Rules into Video Events

1.       Click the 'Surfsight Add-In' on the left menu bar.

2.       Click the 'Video Rules' in the sub-menu to open a list of all Video Rules available with your Geotab device.

3.       Turn 'ON' any rule you wish to capture as a video event and click 'Save' at the top of the page.
